Gymnastics Invitational
TOP With
over 19 teams, 240 gymnasts, the HP Invite has become the largest meet in the
state. A special thanks to our parent group for having over 25 parents working
many, many hours to make this meet a huge success.. On
Thursday, February 10th, Highland Park Gymnastics hosted the Highland Park
Invitational welcoming 20 teams from across the state of Texas. In the largest
meet in the state for Varsity and now for JV, the Varsity Boys placed 3rd as a
team and the newly formed JV also placed 3rd.
Michael
Defeo led the JV Gymasts with a 4th place in the all around, 2nd
on Parallel Bars and 3rd on Vault. Sophomore David Gordon also had a
great night of competition as he was 7th all around and 2nd
on Horizontal Bar. Beau Deaver was 2nd, 4th and 6th
on Pommel Horse, Rings and P-Bars, respectively. Hunter Lawrence hit a personal
best of 8.0 for an 8th on PBars as did Jake Elmore on Vault...8th
with a personal best of 9.0. Jacob Weisfeld was good for a 6th on
Rings while Sean Huckabee was 7th on Vault with a 9.05.
Michael Haskell floor routine netted him a 16th place and HP's
2nd best floor score. Several
JV members will move up to Varsity starting next week including, Defeo, Gordon,
B. Deaver, Lawrence and Weisfeld. Varsity Led
by Meyer Williams, Justin Seagroves, Will Deaver and Andy Kopel, the team had
their best finish in 4 years. Our
varsity team edged out Boswell by .95 for the 3rd place trophy and
beating 17 other teams. Meyer
Williams WON the All Around, Floor, Rings and Parallel Bars. Seagroves 6th
place on floor with a 9.0 was his personal best optional score. Will Deaver was
10th on Floor just one tenth behind Seagroves. Andy Kopel just coming
back from an injury was 30th on Rings.
